Donald L. Patrick, 75, of Hawkeye, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at his home in Hawkeye.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hawkeye Community Hall with Rev. John Moser officiating. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting the family. At his request, Mr. Patrick’s body was gifted to Des Moines University to aid in the education of medical students.
Donald La Vere, son of Rodger “Evertte” and Hazel (Whitcher) Patrick, was born May 16, 1940 in rural West Union. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 12, 1958, and was stationed in Korea until being honorably discharged on February 22, 1962. While in the military he received his GED. After coming back to the Hawkeye area, Donald worked for many years as a semi-truck driver. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and playing cards.
Donald is survived by his three daughters, Mary (Daniel) Schultz of Sumner, Donna (Ernie) Alley of Hawkeye, and Lynnette (Kyle) Henry of West Union; ten grandchildren, Darrick, Darrren, and Deven Schultz, Ramsey and Cody Alley, Owen, Joel, Nicole, Beau, and Madison Henry; six great-grandchildren, Isabelle Alley, Kiah, Keagen, and Jaxon Schultz, Kadin Henry, and Raelyn Schultz; six step-great-grandchildren, Skylar, Bryce, Jordan, Taten, Chase, and Andyn Messler; two brothers, John (Paula) Patrick of Missouri, and Lloyd (Diane) Patrick of Oelwein.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Carl, Harold, Earl, and Melvin Patrick; and two sisters, Vernice and Eileen, who died in infancy.
